The legal bit: Currently in England, celebrants cannot legally marry you (although watch this space as there is a huge push for marriage reform underway). You can opt to complete the legal marriage through your local registry office in a number of ways – it can take place on the same day, sometimes even as part of the celebrant ceremony, but many choose to do the legal part on a different day, usually before your wedding day. It can be a very simple affair, a bit like when you register a birth or death. Then, your wedding ceremony, on your chosen date, at your chosen location, with your chosen officiant, is the showpiece – the personal, meaningful representation of you both and your love story, to share with all of your guests.
